TelefÃ³nica Spain's Imagenio service added 48,725 pay-TV subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2009, taking its customer base to 702,980, up 14.8 per cent year-on-year. It said that the now had a pay-TV market share of 17 per cent, based on coverage that was limited to only 60 per cent of Spanish households.
TelefÃ³nica said that 88 per cent of its Spanish customers now took double or triple-play services. The company's broadband base in Spain stood at 5.5 million, up 4.4 per cent.
Globally, TelefÃ³nica had 2.5 million pay-TV customers at the end of 2009, up 9.8 per cent year-on-year. The company provides TV services in Spain, the Czech Republic, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina. Global broadband customers stood at 13.5 million, up 8.2 per cent.
TelefÃ³nica as a whole posted revenues of E56.7bn for the year, and operating income before depreciation and amortisation of E15.3 billion.
