State-owned TV group RTVE, operator of La 1 and La 2 among other TV channels, has launched a VoD service in Spain with a catalogue of over 5,000 documentaries available on all distribution platforms (mobiles, tablets, Smart TVs, Internet) claiming to be the largest VoD doc offer in Spanish in the world.

Called “Somos Documentales” (We are documentaries), the service will also premiere 20 new documentaries every week and will provide information about the doc world (festivals, docs in progress…) with specific and specialised blogs. RTVE will also produce web docs to be broadcast online. The company is a driving force behind the Spanish doc industry and participates either as a producer or co producer in 50 docs every year.

The service will be organised in different categories to simplify the navigation, such as biographies, current affairs, arts, history, travel or nature, among others, and will also broadcast themed programming coinciding with important events such as the Goya awards, the Spanish cinema Oscars.
