IP, video and broadband technology specialist ARRIS has confirmed that Liberty Global, the world’s largest cable provider, is deploying its E6000 Converged Edge Router (CER) to its leading German subsidiary, Unitymedia KabelBW – enabling enhanced and uninterrupted entertainment and broadband services with 1 Gbps capacity.
Liberty Global is dramatically expanding ARRIS’s E6000 CER footprint, which already covers two million E6000 subscribers from flagship customers around the globe – including Comcast, GCI, WOW!, and SK Broadband – with more global wins to be announced in the coming months.
According to ARRIS, the E6000’s growing popularity echoes the exponential uptick in consumer demand for more video on more devices in more places:
- More video: consumers watch an average of 25 hours of content each week, according to ARRIS’s global consumer entertainment study.
- More ways: viewing of on-demand content increased a ‘whopping’ 15 per cent in the past year, according to Nielsen’s Q3 2013 Cross Platform Report.
- More devices: 50 per cent of consumers watch user-generated content on their mobile devices, according to Accenture’s Video-Over-Internet Consumer Survey.
ARRIS suggests that its global leadership in CCAP not only positions the company to capitalise on the impending sea-change in IP video delivery, it it also ensures that customers such as Liberty Global, are ahead of the current.
