Wuaki.tv Academy Awards 2015 survey

Wuaki.tv, the VoD streaming service, has unveiled the results of its Oscars 2015 survey. Aimed at Wuaki.tv’s customer base of 2 million people in the UK, Spain, France and Germany, users were asked to vote on which movies and Hollywood stars will win the top gongs at the glitz and glamour of the Oscars ceremony in February.
In the biggest category of Best Movie, opinions were divided across Europe. Despite being the number one choice in Germany and Spain, Birdman didn’t even make it into the top three in the UK. Instead, Boyhood, a story of the joys and pitfalls of growing up, received 40 per cent of the vote. There may have been some Brit bias with The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Theory Of Everything coming close behind.
In the Best Actor category, we see a ‘Battle of Britain’ taking place between Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch. Redmayne gets the nod with 45 per cent of the vote for his role in the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory Of Everything. Fellow Brit Cumberbatch receive 21 per cent of the vote for his lead role in The Imitation Game. In third place was Michael Keaton for his part in Birdman. Interestingly, he was the first choice in Spain, Germany and France.
If Wuaki.tv’s Oscars survey is anything to go by, Julianne Moore and Felicity Jones should both start preparing acceptance speeches for Best Actress. Film fans in the UK couldn’t choose between the two for their respective roles in Still Alice and The Theory Of Everything. Spanish fans also chose Moore as the winner and she featured in the top three elsewhere in Europe. As for the Best Supporting Actress category, it was nearly a clean sweep for Boyhood star Patricia Arquette, with only Germany omitting her from their potential winners list.
