MP & Silva, the international sports agency, will continue to build on its successful distribution of the German Bundesliga in Japan for the 2015/2016 to the 2017/2018 season, having acquired the exclusive media rights from Fox International Channels (FIC), 21st Century Fox’s multi-media business and Asia’s leading payTV network under a comprehensive sublicensing deal approved by Bundesliga’s commercial subsidiary DFL Sports Enterprises.
MP & Silva will be the exclusive distributor of Bundesliga rights in Japan across all platforms, including cable, satellite, terrestrial, Web TV, IPTV and mobile. The deal covers all league matches, the Supercup and the relegation matches as well as league highlights from every round.
Significantly, the broadcast deal underlines MP & Silva’s strong local partnerships with major broadcasters in Japan, and was successful in raising the profile of the league as the current Bundesliga rights holder for the current cycle from 2012/2013 to 2014/2015 seasons. DFL Sports Enterprises has been very satisfied with the MP & Silva partnership in Japan and welcomes the continuation of the cooperation.
Said Marco Auletta, MP & Silva’s Chief Executive Officer: “Given the star power attached to Germany’s win at the recent FIFA World Cup, we look forward to further strengthening the Bundesliga’s presence in Japan. The audiences for the league in Japan continue to grow, and given the excitement attached to Shinji Kagawa’s return to Borussia Dortmund, we only see this trend increasing. Shinji Okazaki from FSV Mainz 05 is one of the leading scorers in the league and the volume of quality Japanese players within the Bundesliga means that there is a strong Japanese interest story on every weekend.”
