Swisscom reaches 1m FTTH homes with Alcatel-Lucent

January 6, 2016

Alcatel-Lucent has reached an important milestone of its deployment of fixed ultra-broadband access technology with Swisscom. The deployment enabled Swisscom to reach its target of connecting about one third of Swiss households – which amounts to 1 million homes and small businesses –  by 2015. The 30 per cent of homes in Switzerland that now have access to Gigabit services is among the highest percentage-wise in Europe today.

With the deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s Intelligent Service Access Manager fixed ultra-broadband access technology, Swisscom can now offer higher-quality, higher-bandwidth video services, reaching more than one million residential customers. This will take Swisscom closer to its goal of providing ultra-broadband access to 85 per cent of all homes and businesses by 2020.

Heinz Herren, CTO and CIO of Swisscom, said: “We are pleased to work with Alcatel-Lucent to help us achieve our goal of delivering the highest speeds to our customers. Achieving this milestone is significant and will allow us to deliver compelling new services to more than a million homes while further enhancing our subscribers’ quality of experience.”
