Spain: Orange and Vodafone in FTTH battle

September 9, 2016

From David Del Valle in Madrid

Spanish telcos Orange and Vodafone are ramping up their FTTH rollout with the aim of becoming the company with the second largest network behind market leader Telefónica – currently available in 16 million homes.

Orange Spain plans to reach 14 million households by the end of 2019, one year earlier than planned, according to the operator’s new CEO Laurent Paillassot. At a conference in Santander, in northern Spain, he said that the company would add nearly 3 million FTTH homes in 2016 with plans to reach a total of 9.6 million households this year.

Vodafone currently has 9 million homes passed with plans to reach 10 million in the first quarter of 2017.
