Eurosport and StubHub join forces

January 18, 2018

StubHub, an eBay company and ticket marketplace, has teamed up with Eurosport to become the company’s online ticketing partner.

The partnership means fans visiting Eurosport’s flagship online destination will be able to directly purchase tickets via StubHub to some of the world’s biggest sport and entertainment events. This includes top international football matches from La Liga, Serie A and the Champions League, the very best tennis tournaments such as Wimbledon and the ATP Tour Finals, and international and domestic boxing and rugby events including the Six Nations Championship. There will also be a bespoke, local ticket offering for visitors to Eurosport’s websites in Spain, France, Germany, Italy and the UK.

Commenting on the deal, Eurosport CEO Peter Hutton said: “This is a great partnership for the millions of fans that visit Eurosport websites across Europe. Through StubHub, we can now offer supporters the opportunity to not only watch and read about their favourite sports, teams and players, but see them perform in person. Our global homepage receives up to 60 million unique visitors per month and this agreement adds even more value to the user experience at a global and local level, in five major markets.”

Ander Michelena, General Manager International for StubHub, said: “A ticket is sold every second on StubHub, a platform that seeks with this agreement to establish itself as the leading platform for European sporting fans. It is a pleasure to be able to partner with a company of the prestige of Eurosport. We want to increase our commitment to leveraging the potential of our strategic partners to the full in order to reach out to sports fans and offer them access to unique and exciting events around the world.

According to Michelena, the European events market is “huge, with great potential and in steady growth.”

StubHub data shows that in 2017 the number of transactions by UK consumers who purchase tickets for national sporting events has increased by 15 per cent, while the transactions for foreign sporting events has soared by 32 per cent.

“An increasing number of people include in their travel plans the opportunity to attend an event in the country they are visiting as a central part of their tourism experience, above all in the case of major European league matches or other high-level competitions. With agreements such as this, we seek to strengthen the experiential tourism industry, a current growth segment,” Michelena added.
