Dolby Labs and Samsung used Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to announce a major deal that will see Dolby’s Atmos enhanced sound system incorporated on Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones.

“Dolby Atmos is enabling a new level of audio experience on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ mobile devices. This announcement signifies a milestone for the expansion of Dolby Atmos into more devices and Samsung’s commitment to expand the availability of Dolby Atmos experiences,” said Giles Baker, SVP, Consumer Entertainment Group, Dolby Labs, in a statement at the show.

First used in cinema, and increasingly available on televisions and home entertainment devices, to smartphones and tablets, Dolby’s Atmos creates powerful moving audio on suitable mobile devices via headphones and built-in speakers. Benefits include: a more enveloping soundfield, greater subtlety and nuance, crisper dialogue, maximised loudness without distortion, and consistent playback volume for a very wide variety of content.
