Karim Michel Sabbagh, who is stepping down from his CEO role at satellite operator SES, has taken on another CEO role at Abu Dhabii-based cyber security firm DarkMatter.

Faisal Al Bannai, the founder and MD of DarkMatter, says the appointment will be effective from April 2018 when Sabbagh’s SES obligations wrap up.

Sabbagh spent 4 years at SES but was previously working at Dubai-based analysts Booz & Co.

“It is exciting for me to return to the vibrant Middle East region having spent a number of years away, and to lead one of only a handful of full-service cybersecurity firms present in the world today. I look forward to contributing to building a global cybersecurity powerhouse in arguably the most significant industry of our time,” Sabbagh said.

Privately-held DarkMatter was formed in 2015 and has some 650 staff. Local reports suggest that the film works closely with the UAE’s police and anti-piracy organisations.
