From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris

Altice France has revealed that SFR Sport will be rebranded as RMC Sport from July 3rd, with the aim of becoming “the Netflix of Sport” according to CEO Alain Weill.

Composed of five premium channels (RMC Sport 1 for European football; RMC Sport 2 for basketball, athletics and rugby; RMC Sport 3 for equestrian and extreme sports; RMC Sport 4 for boxing and martial arts; and RMC Sport News), RMC Sport, which owns premium exclusive rights such as the Champions League and the Europa League, will be a mix of live sport, highlights, entertainment, news and opinion.

The package, non-exclusive to SFR subscribers, has been developed as a TV Everywhere service across all digital screens. A new OTT platform is set to be launched online as an app that will serve as a live hub for all content.

SFR has already signed deals with key smart TV manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, Apple TV or LG and distributor Fransat to aid its OTT distribution. The platform, which is initially targeting 1 million subscribers,  will also be implemented on set-top-boxes at a later phase.

The exact prices have not been revealed but should be around €5 for SFR subscribers and €15 for a digital subscription.
