North to step down as Freeview MD

June 21, 2018

Guy North has announced he is to step down as Managing Director of UK digital terrestrial free-to-air platform Freeview in October. He was appointed MD in June 2014, having joined as Marketing & Communications Director three years earlier. He spearheaded the launch of Freeview Play in 2015, which was accompanied by a full brand relaunch to take Freeview into the connected world.

Announcing his departure, North said: “It’s been a privilege to lead the UK’s best loved TV platform, ensuring viewers can receive the very best television subscription free. The Freeview brand and platform is now in better shape than ever to compete in a rapidly changing environment. I’m proud to leave it in this strong position as I go on to explore new adventures and opportunities.”

Rufus Radcliffe, Chairman of the Freeview Board commented: “I’d like to thank Guy for his dedication to Freeview over a number of years. As Managing Director, he’s been the driving force behind Freeview’s reinvention for a digital age, securing the future of free-to-view TV for UK viewers. I wish him the very best for the future.”

North will continue to lead Freeview until October 2018. Owen Jenkinson, Marketing Director of Freeview will then report directly to the Freeview board, responsible for all marketing and communications activity. As part of the new settlement, Freeview will work even more closely with Digital UK who will continue to lead on product development, supply chain partnerships and platform strategy.

Having secured a new five-year funding settlement with Freeview’s shareholders, North leaves the UK’s most watched TV platform in good health.
