DTVKit, Ocean Blue Software and HARMAN Connected Services collaborate

September 3, 2018

DTVKit, HARMAN Connected Services and Ocean Blue Software have agreed a collaboration that will accelerate the development and introduction of Android TV based products.

The collaboration will fully support DTVKit members with a wide range of high value services from the early stages of project planning, all the way through to certification.

OBS have integrated DTVKit into Android using the Android TV Input Framework (TIF). This framework enables OEMs to provide access to broadcast DVB services on their Android powered devices. Integrating DTVKit with the Android TIF using the binder IPC, rather than via a proprietary mechanism, ensures compatibility with the Android architecture for current and future releases. OBS can provide support for Android TV (TIF) development and integration to any DTVKit members. The Android Integration Software has been donated by OBS and is available to all DTVKit members.

Paul Martin, CEO of OBS, commented, “I am excited to be expanding our relationship with HARMAN Connected Services and DTVKit. Each organisation brings complementary benefits to our customers. Android TV’s inherent benefits of reduced software investment and rapid time to market are further enhanced by this collaboration. As a founding member of DTVKit, OBS is uniquely placed to quickly adapt the DTVKit stack to the final product requirements. ”

Google’s Android Ecosystem Partner, HARMAN Connected Services, can provide certification services to DTVKit members. The Certification Service consists of CTS/CTS Verifier/GTS, Smoke Tests, ATV Help, and submitting test results on behalf of the OEM, to gain Google’s approval. Alongside this, HARMAN can support customers with UI/UX Development, Systems Integration, and Programme Management.

DTVKit offers a range of different support packages to ensure that all the needs of a business are met. The range of support packages can help with anything from specialised engineering support, testing services and project management.

Phil Evans, General Manager of DTVKit, also commented “This is the next logical step for DTVKit. Already we can meet members’ requirements for low end (RTOS) platforms through to high end PVR and Hybrid solutions. Therefore, integration with Android TV makes perfect sense to ensure DTVKit offers the most complete solution to our members. This is especially prominent as market demand for Android TV is high and reflected in the requirements of our members.”

As of August 2018, DTVKit integration with Android TV is currently available on Broadcom and HiSilicon platforms.
