Telefónica speeds up FTTH deployment in Brazil

Spanish telco Telefónica is replicating Spain’s FTTH model with a massive deployment of networks in Brazil.

The company already covers 100 cities with plans to extend the network to 20 cities more later in the year. Telefónica is distributing some 100 HD TV channels among them Cartoon Network Ja!, Discovery Kids ON, Esporte Interativo Plus, FOX Premium, Vivo Games4U and WatchESPN.

The company will invest up to €5.5 billion to 2020 in new infrastructures, with €2.5 billion specifically dedicated to optic fibre.

At the end of June, Telefónica had 1.6 million FTTH passed homes, up 45.3 per cent versus the same period last year.
