Amazon Prime Video picks up American Gods for 3rd season

March 18, 2019

Amazon Prime Video has picked up a third season of the hit Prime Original series, American Gods, following the successful premiere of the second season. The show, which is exclusively available in more than 200 countries and territories on Prime Video outside of the U.S., is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by award-winning author, Neil Gaiman.

Best known for his work on Hemlock Grove, The Walking Dead, Dexter and The Shield, Charles “Chic” Eglee will join the ‘god squad’ as showrunner for the upcoming third season of American Gods.

“I’m thrilled American Gods has been renewed for a third season, and even more thrilled that I’m getting to work on it with Chic Eglee,” said Neil Gaiman. “Chic is the best partner-in-crime. We’ve been working for weeks now on the shape of the season and I’m delighted that he gets to carry the American Gods torch on to glory. Thank you to Fremantle, Starz and Amazon for having faith in the series, to Bryan, Michael and Jesse for bringing it this far, to all the cast and crew, and most of all to the viewers. It’s their love of the characters that took us to this point, and will take us on to the next chapter.”

Starring Ricky Whittle (The 100, Nappily Ever After) as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane (Deadwood, John Wick) as Mr. Wednesday, American Gods tells the story of a war brewing between Old Gods and New Gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Season Two finds the battle between Old Gods and New Gods moving inexorably towards crisis point as their destinies collide with those of men. In this strange new world, faith requires terrible sacrifice.

“American Gods is stunning entertainment and our customers across the globe are loving it,” said Brad Beale, Vice President of Worldwide Licensing for Prime Video.  “With season two just kicking off, we’re thrilled that we can officially announce for our customers and fans of Neil Gaiman that another season of the series they love will be coming to Prime Video.”

Fans can stream all of season one of American Gods now on Prime Video. New episodes will be released every Monday over the next seven weeks for Prime Video members around the world to enjoy. American Gods is produced by Fremantle.
