“Prompt access to [C-band] is now critical” for 5G over the US, says Verizon’s CEO Hans Vestberg.
He met with FCC Chairman Ajit Pai last week and in a follow-up letter to the FCC, stated that he had encouraged the FCC to “move forward quickly to make spectrum in the 3.7 to 4.2 GHz band available and to get a portion of this currently underutilized spectrum in the hands of 5G providers who stand ready to deploy.”
Vestberg (and William H Johnson, Verizon’s SVP/Federal Regulatory & Legal Affairs also at the meeting) didn’t quite say that they backed the C-Band Alliance’s plan to reallocate 180 MHz of C-band spectrum, but investment bank J P Morgan, in its note to clients, said that Verizon “would be motivated” to grab repurposed satellite spectrum.
