August 7, 2019
Fulwell73, the acclaimed production company behind I Am Bolt, In the Hands of the Gods and Mo Farah: Race of His Life has announced they are in production on a new sports documentary about one of the UK’s most iconic sporting figures – former Manchester United manager Sir Matt Busby.
Following on from Class of ’92, Fulwell’s previous Manchester United hit documentary, Busby will take a look at the life and career of Busby, one of the greatest, most influential managers in world football history.
During his 25 years in charge of Manchester United, the charismatic leader led the club to total domestic dominance and European glory. Known for his championing of young players, Busby developed football legends including George Best and Bobby Charlton, one of the original ‘Busby Babes’. Transforming Manchester United from the second-best team in town into one of the world’s most successful and iconic football clubs, Busby changed the shape of, not just United and the city of Manchester as a whole, but the very game itself.
From Busby’s humble beginnings in a small Scottish mining village, to twice rebuilding a football club first ravaged by war and then by the tragedy of the Munich Air Disaster, BUSBY is the definitive story of the founding father of modern Manchester United, a sporting pioneer whose legacy can be traced right up to the treble winning Manchester United side of 1999, and beyond.
Directed by Joe Pearlman (Bros: After the Screaming Stops, Mo Farah: Race of His Life) the film features previously unseen archive footage and interviews with those who knew Busby best including the remaining ‘Busby Babes’ and members of the 1968 European Cup winning team, the ‘Class of ’92’, and others.
Busby is the latest ground breaking sports documentary produced by Fulwell 73 following their critically acclaimed box-office hits The Class of 92, and I Am Bolt, the Netflix series Sunderland ‘Til I Die and its three films in the Phenoms series for Fox Sports about the FIFA World Cup which aired in June, 2018. Fulwell 73 also recently announced a new era-defining documentary series on Chelsea FC Women. The series will go behind the scenes at one of the world’s most successful women’s football teams, with the full backing and support of Chelsea Football Club.
Busby is being produced by Leo Pearlman (Partner) and co-produced by Heather Greenwood (Senior Executive). Joe Pearlman (Bros: After the Screaming Stops, Mo Farah: Race of His Life) is directing.
Altitude Films, one of the UK’s leading independent production and distribution companies and the team behind the Asif Kapadia’s BAFTA and Oscar winning documentary Amy, and recent release Diego Maradona, a bittersweet look at the career of Argentine hero and one of the world’s most celebrated football players.
