Tech4home wins Red Dot Design Award
September 24, 2019
Tech4home has been lauded for its cutting edge Caster Remote Control after the device scooped the prestigious 2019 Red Dot Product Design award.
The handset – created by the Portuguese manufacturer to enhance the dynamism and user-friendliness of the Telefónica Movistar+ TV service – combines state-of-the-art design with high-end functionality, bolstering Tech4home’s growing reputation as trailblazers in the remote control industry.
Celebrating the Red Dot triumph, Tech4home’s CEO, Miguel Oliveira said: “Our work with leading TV service operators continues to see us delivering the best, most progressive and highly regarded remote control technology to both elevate and simplify the customer’s viewing experience.”
“Our fantastic Red Dot Design Award win with the Caster Remote Control for Telefónica Movistar+ strengthens our pioneering position in the marketplace and spurs us on to further innovations in design. We’re always striving for the next level – and we’ll continue to hit new heights in this ever-advancing area of technology.”
The Caster Remote Control – due to launch for Movistar+ customers in Spain in early 2020 – is as easy on the eye as it is the fingers, boasting attention-grabbing aesthetics including a distinctively dynamic side contour and a D-pad centrepiece, which is a conveniently positioned control hub for the entire service experience.
A multi-coloured LED light gives visual feedback, allowing the user to acknowledge the status of the control intuitively, and the remote’s button are fully backlight and illuminate in a dimly lit room whenever it’s picked up.
The device also supports a smart feature called eco-lighting that prevents backlight in bright environments, while the rear of the Caster remote has a soft texture to guarantee comfortable and secure handling.
Its integrated Voice Command functionality is highlighted by a striking icon, centrally located to allow the user effortless interaction with Movistar’s virtual assistant, Aura, while its advanced BLE communication feature avoids the need for line-of-sight.
Commenting on Tech4home’s design victory, Professor Dr Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, said: “I would like to congratulate the laureates sincerely on their wonderful success. The fact that their products were able to satisfy the strict criteria of the jury bears testimony to their award-winning design quality. The laureates are thus setting key trends in the design industry and are showing where future directions may lead.”
This year, designers and manufacturers from 55 countries entered over 5,500 products in the Red Dot Award: Product Design competition. An international jury comprised of design experts from various disciplines painstakingly tested and discussed each product over the course of several days before singling out Tech4home’s Caster Remote Control as the winner.
This is the third successive year Tech4home has received an illustrious Red Dot honour, having previously won design accolades in 2018 for its dual-remote Notus System and in 2017 for its MODU Ecosystem.
The company celebrated its 2019 success at a special Red Dot ceremony on 8 July at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, Germany. The Caster Remote Control is since part of the ‘Design On Stage’ exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen – which presents all of the award-winning products.
