Pluto TV launches Degrassi pop-up in US & UK

October 2, 2019

The Degrassi and Pluto TV universes are fusing, with Pluto TV dedicating a Pop-Up channel to the award-winning and longest running drama franchise in Canadian history. The Pluto TV Degrassi channel is now showcasing Degrassi: The Next Generation and its follow-up Degrassi, two of the franchise’s most popular series, in the UK and the US.

Degrassi: The Next Generation, airing from 2001 to 2009, is a teen drama TV series dealing with real-life issues of high school life. The show’s original cast includes Drake (then Aubrey Graham), playing school basketballer Jimmy Brooks throughout the first eight seasons, as well as Nina Dobrev portraying Mia Jones. With equal measures of humor, angst and heart, Degrassi: The Next Generation follows Jimmy and his fellow students as they experience all of their “firsts” on their journey into adulthood.

In addition to showcasing dating and heartbreak, the series shines a light on highly relevant and charged social and cultural topics, such as abuse, homophobia, mental disorders, gang crime and teen pregnancy. This open and honest narrative earned the series an avid and loyal fanbase far beyond the borders of Canada.

Degrassi is the continuation of Degrassi: The Next Generation, beginning in the 10th season in 2010. The spin-off continues to capture the joy and angst of contemporary teenage life at Degrassi Community School. Restructured into a telenovela format with 40+ episodes a season, Degrassi focusses on in-depth, subtle storytelling and character study. The show ended in 2015.

Available immediately, Pluto TV viewers can tune-in, for free, to binge this iconic show on mobile, web and connected streaming devices.

The Degrassi franchise is owned and distributed by the Canadian kids and family media company, WildBrain.
