From David Del Valle in Madrid

Spain’s regulatory body CNMC has imposed a €1.5 million fine on Movistar for overcharging its rivals for El Partidazo, the premium service that airs the biggest football clash of every game week.

In season 2016-2017, Movistar reported fewer El Partidazo subscribers than the real figure saving costs for the company and overcharging its rivals Orange, Vodafone and Telecable which had to face a higher bill for El Partidazo rights.

Since 2015 Movistar is obliged by law to share its premium football rights with third parties to guarantee free competition and avoid an abuse of a dominant position.
