DAZN to exclusively show Wilder v Ortiz in Germany & Spain

November 20, 2019

The eagerly anticipated rematch between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (41-0-1) and challenger Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz (31-1-0), at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on November 3rd. The fight will be streamed on DAZN in four of its markets – exclusive in Germany and Spain and non-exclusive in Austria and Switzerland.

Jacopo Tonoli, Chief Commercial Officer of DAZN Group, commented on the deal: “As DAZN continues to promote boxing across Europe, we’re thrilled to bring this heavyweight clash to four of our markets. Featuring two of the most explosive heavyweights in the division, the fight is a great addition to the already packed schedule in the final couple of months in 2019. DAZN is thriving as a better and fairer way to watch sport around the world, without the expensive, one-off pay-per-view prices.”

The two fighters previously met in 2018, bringing a heavyweight classic to the Barclays Center, New York and fans around the world. Wilder knocked down Ortiz in the fifth round, resisted a huge barrage of blows in the seventh before scoring a massive 10th-round knockout to claim his 39th career knockout.

Since the initial fight between the two fighters, WBC champion Deontay Wilder has retained his belt twice, the first through a controversial draw with lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and the second via a dominant win against two-time world heavyweight title challenger Dominic Breazeale. The Alabama native is now looking to secure a tenth successful defence of his WBC belt and a shot at more heavyweight titles. Ortiz has won three fights since the first bout, boasting KO victories over Razvan Cojanu and Travis Kauffman and a unanimous decision win over Christian Hammer in March.
