Cineflix Rights first-look deal with Curious Films
January 24, 2020
Cineflix Rights, the independent TV content distributor, has closed a first-look development deal with fast-growing UK indie Curious Films. The partnership gives Cineflix Rights exclusive distribution rights to Curious Films’ new slate, working together with the producer to help drive its international profile to generate new commissions and maximise global sales.
Since its launch 18 months ago, Curious Films has built a reputation for producing critically-acclaimed and popular factual television for broadcasters in the UK and around the world. Founded by Dov Freedman and Charlie Russell, the company’s recent output spans genres and broadcasters including Chris Packham: 7.7 Billion People & Counting (BBC2), Charlotte Church: My Family And Me (Channel 4), and Britain’s Youngest Football Boss (BBC3), which was acquired by Cineflix Rights in 2019. The company is currently in production on projects including Frank Gardner: Being Frank (BBC2) and Squad Goals, a six-part follow up series with West Ham United’s Women’s team (BBC3).
Richard Life, Head of Acquisitions, Cineflix Rights said: “Curious Films has demonstrated the ability to win commissions from across the UK market for high-profile, attention-grabbing content which appeals to a wide range of audiences—particularly the 16-34 age group. We are always on the look-out to create partnerships with top young companies, so I’m thrilled to be teaming up with Dov and Charlie, who are well-regarded creatively and very much in demand.”
Curious Films Co-Founder Dov Freedman added: “Partnering with Cineflix Rights provides us with the opportunity to move to our next phase of growth, building out from the UK into international markets. Their team has a great reputation for working with producers to maximise opportunities for individual projects as well as longer term business expansion and we’re looking forward to a successful and creative partnership together.”
Cineflix Rights’ pact with Curious Films is the latest partnership for the UK’s largest independent distributor, following its recent deals with Finestripe Productions, Windfall Films, Renegade Pictures, Lion TV, and Talesmith.
