Orange Spain is speeding up the deployment of 5G with coverage of 442 cities, from 38 provinces – using 5G NSA via DSS – covering 28 per cent of the Spanish population.
The company plans to reach a 90 per cent coverage in 2022 and is getting ready for the forthcoming 700 MHz public auction that will take place later this month (or June latest), after experiencing delays as a result of the pandemic.
The Government will also open a public consultation on the 26GHz band (24.25 GHz-27.5 GHz making a total of 1,135 MHz) to know its usage for 5G, aiming to release the band before the end of December. Thus, 5G will use three bands: 3.5 GHz, already allocated; the 700 MHz band to be allocated in May/June, and the 26GHz band before December.
