December 21, 2022

BBC Wales has announced that Delyth Isaac has been appointed as the new Head of News and Current Affairs. In this role she will lead the development of all news and current affairs services on digital, radio and television. She leads a team of journalists based across Wales and in Westminster.

Rhuanedd Richards, Director BBC Cymru Wales, says: “I’m delighted that Delyth has been appointed as BBC Wales’s Head of News and Current Affairs. Delyth brings a wealth of experience and journalistic judgement, along with the leadership skills to inspire staff of the News and Current Affairs department in the years ahead.”

Delyth started her career in local newspapers before joining BBC Wales as a researcher. She went on to work in radio and television news production before specialising in producing political programmes including every election results programme for S4C and BBC Wales between 2001 and 2017. In 2014 Delyth became Editor of BBC Wales Politics and in 2018 she became Editor of BBC Wales Today.

Delyth has been acting head of News since February 2022 and will become the first female Head of News at BBC Wales. Her appointment follows a competitive recruitment process. She replaces Garmon Rhys, who has been appointed as a Senior Director of Projects for BBC Nations.
