Gogo Business Aviation, a provider of In-Flight broadband to the business aviation sector, has announced the availability of its Avance LX5 technology for 5G services.

Gogo says the new kit is an “easy box swap” for owners and aircraft operators.

“Designed in the exact same form factor as the currently available Avance L5, LX5 is contained in a single box, ideal for space-constrained customers, and houses the hardware and software necessary to leverage the full power of the Gogo 5G network, expected to deliver mean speeds of ~25 Mbps, with peak speeds of 75-80 Mbps. Previously, an upgrade to Gogo 5G required the installation of two LRUs,” read a press statement.

The operator adds that for customers new to Avance, they can pre-provision by installing the MB13 5G antennas and an L5, and will be able to operate on the Gogo 4G network until the launch of Gogo 5G, which is expected in mid-year 2024, at which time they will be eligible to receive a free LX5 swap for their L5 LRU.

As of March 31st 2023, Gogo reported 3,447 business aircraft flying with Gogo’s Avance L5 or L3 system installed, 7,046 aircraft flying with its ATG systems onboard, and 4,458 aircraft with narrowband satellite connectivity installed.
