Merapar appoints Terpstra as new CEO
September 5, 2023
Merapar Technologies, a technology consultancy and software engineering company, has announced the
appointment of Alex Terpstra as their new CEO. A move which further strengthens Merapar’s strategic growth strategy.
Terpstra, who has formerly worked with the likes of Civolution and Philips, has a strong track record in building and scaling high-growth businesses. Alex led the spin off of the leading watermarking technology company Civolution from Philips. As its CEO, he organically grew the company through opening new industry verticals and winning key customer contracts. Along the way, the company picked up two technology and engineering Emmy awards for its watermarking and fingerprinting technologies.
Terpstra in this global role, will report directly to Erwin van Dommelen, Merapar Executive Chairman. Terpstra will be fundamental in leading Merapar’s business as the company continues to grow, expanding its customer base, opening new markets, and introducing innovations to support our global industry.
The Media and Entertainment industry is experiencing transformational change in the realignment of business models and value chains. The migration of business critical systems to the cloud and the laser focus on high ROI value engineering have put software architectures, delivery models and domain expertise at the centre of video product development.
Merapar, with its deep domain expertise in media and broadcast and broad software engineering competencies, is perfectly positioned to meet the need of the industry for low risk, high value engineering delivery.
“Joining Merapar at this pivotal moment in our industry, as traditional broadcast is challenged by IP streaming and VoD, is very exciting. Traditional IT has changed too – cloud native engineering, coupled with agile ways of working have redefined the way our engineers work and our customers engage. Monolithic product stacks are being replaced by home grown micro services architectures. Merapar teams work at the heart of these tectonic shifts and, with the help of proven foundational architectures and component toolkits, create value by engineering cost out and designing opportunity in. Merapar has already achieved so much; the company works with the greatest brands in
entertainment and I look forward to contributing to even more success,” said Terpstra.
“I have known Alex for many years, since working with him at Philips, and have huge respect for his experience and industry knowledge. He is the ideal person to lead Merapar, at this time in our growth journey, allowing me to focus on the strategic direction of the business. Alex will be key in growing our position as the premier media and technology consulting firm,” added van Dommelen.
