NEP UK chooses latest Sony HDC Cameras
January 4, 2024
NEP UK, part of the NEP Group worldwide network, has chosen to further its investments in Sony’s live production line up this year, by adding a number of HDC-3500V cameras to its portfolio. The HDC-3500V camera, announced at NAB 2023 come with an optical variable ND filter which allows operators to control the depth of field in their images, generating more creative options.
Last year NEP UK also chose the Sony HDC-F5500 cameras, which delivers a shallow depth of field with S35mm Large Format to live production workflows, alongside the ILME-FR7 and HDR capable monitors, combining PVM-X2400 and LMD-A240 models to build up its offering to its clients. The HDC-3500V cameras will be used throughout 2024, for entertainment but also live sporting events, happening amongst others, in Paris.
The HDC-3500V’s newly developed Virtual Iris function with optical Variable ND filter allows vision engineers to choose an iris ‘sweet spot’ on the attached lens by adjusting light levels entering the camera without changing the iris value. This gives the engineer fine control over the camera’s depth of field under varying light conditions, adjusting brightness using the optical variable ND filter instead of the lens iris.
“We’re always looking to pair our amazing people with the latest technologies when it comes to pushing the envelope in terms of what we offer to our clients for their events around the world,” commented Donald Begg, Senior Director of Engineering and Technology of NEP UK. “The variable ND filter in the HDC-3500V permits, if desired, the creation of images with a distinctive artistic tone, and we have been witnessing a growing appetite for that look and feel from our clients.”
“NEP and Sony have been working hand in hand for many years to deliver innovative technological solutions that make images stand out and this latest commitment is no exception,” said Norbert Paquet, Head of Live Production, Sony Europe.
