UB40 shoot new music videos at Capture Studios
January 25, 2024
Celebrating 45 years together, Birmingham’s own UB40 – the popular reggae band – are gearing up to release their new album UB45 on April 19th. The album boasts seven new tracks plus fresh recordings of some of their most-loved songs. Music videos for 13 tracks from the album were shot at Inspired Thinking Group’s Capture Studios.
UB45 sees the band doing what they do best, with songs that fearlessly address societal hot-button issues and take a firm stand against the injustices of the world. This is apparent from the off on opening track “Home”. Other new recordings include a beautiful rendition of Bill Withers’ “Hope She’ll Be Happier” (1971), “Trouble”, “Say Nothing”, “Fool Me Once”, and the single “Champion”, which was the official anthem of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Alongside the new tracks, UB40’s iconic tunes – including “Food For Thought”, “Red Red Wine” and “Kingston Town” – have all been given a fresh recorded treatment while retaining the spirit, timbre and melodies that fans know and love.
The band used Capture Studios’ state-of-the-art facility in Birmingham, performing in front of the massive 10m x 3m Extended Reality screen – shooting 13 new music videos for the album in just one day.
UB40 guitarist Robin Campbell commented: “That was a great experience! Brilliant working atmosphere, some clever tech, and amazing that we could shoot all our videos for the new album in just a day. Capture Studios is a world-class facility with a world-class professional team”.
Drummer Jimmy Brown added: “We can’t wait to launch the new album and share the videos with our fans – before we jump on tour to play in front of live audiences!”
Sue Mountford, Team ITG CEO, said: “We were so proud to welcome Birmingham legends and global icons, UB40, to our Capture Studios. It was amazing to be part of the preparations for their long-awaited new album release and tour. We love a challenge and shooting 13 music videos in one day was certainly that! A bit of a creative twist too on the work we normally deliver for Capture clients, which includes everything from fashion to food to cars – plus, being a Virtual Production studio, we even sent Myleene Klass to space last month, which was fun, and another first for Capture Studios!”
To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the band, UB40 are planning a headline arena tour of the UK alongside special guests Soul II Soul, performing in Birmingham, London, Liverpool, Cardiff, Leeds, Glasgow, Nottingham, and Belfast.
At 30,000 sq. ft, Midlands-based Capture Studios is a little smaller than many of the arenas UB40 will be playing, but is one of the largest film and photography studios in the UK. Incorporating everything from automated photography, bespoke set builds and development and lifestyle kitchens to an Infinity Cove, live broadcast capabilities and state-of-the-art Virtual Production – Capture Studios is transforming the way brands (and now bands) shoot for every channel.
