Planetcast unveils NexC architecture for media distribution services

April 11, 2024

Planetcast Media Services, a broadcast technology and media services provider, will be showcasing its industry-leading product portfolio of cloud-first media distribution services and technologies at NAB Show 2024. The show will feature the first public demonstration of its NexC architecture, empowering media companies to overcome the complexity challenge of today’s media distribution landscape. Attendees to Planetcast’s booth will get a first-hand look at NexC’s seamless management of content workloads across content processing and post production and its friction-free manoeuvring of content across products that span distribution and monetisation.

Planetcast has also recently acquired Switch Media, to fill out NexC’s distribution portfolio with a mature and proven end-to-end OTT platform. The acquisition enables Planetcast to fully integrate Switch Media’s proprietary OTT platform with NexC, adding a vital distribution option for its media customers.

Launched in February this year, NexC streamlines content management, distribution, and monetization services for the media and entertainment industry. Through its innovative single-window content supply chain management, NexC empowers users to overcome and profit from the complexities of today’s dynamic landscape. Whether minimizing costs, managing media assets, reaching global audiences, or maximising revenue, NexC simplifies the process, ensuring creativity thrives in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

“We are excited to be back at the NAB Show, where we will show how our innovative solutions and services deliver real sustained value,” said Sanjay Duda, CEO of Planetcast Media Services. “A lot has changed in the past 12 months, with an even greater need to reach new audiences and revenue streams. Navigating the complexities of media processing and management will be a major topic in Las Vegas, with media companies keen to explore technologies addressing this challenge. Planetcast’s NexC unified service layer architecture answers this emphatically through its flexible cloud-first approach, enabling customers to maximise efficiency and cost-effectiveness.”

The NexC architecture consists of the following elements, all accessed through Planetcast’s unified customer user interface (UI) and dashboard:

  • Contido content supply chain and management solution.
  • Content Preparation & Localisation Services, a full suite of core technical post-production services from quality control, technical and compliance checks to subtitling, dubbing, editing, rescoring etc.
  • Scheduling, playout and distribution through the CloudX hybrid cloud playout and RECASTER digital delivery.
  • RECASTER – a dynamic and robust IP transport solution, which delivers a secure internet stream from anywhere to anywhere, be it a linear channel or a live sports stream.
  • Planetcast OTT, a white-labelled OTT solution for non-linear content distribution that has delivered complex, multi-award-winning online streaming solutions, from ingest to delivery, for major brands and live events worldwide, including the Summer and Winter Olympics, FIFA World Cup and Formula 1 for customers such as Foxtel Australia and Media Prima Malaysia.
  • Planetcast provides FAST channel services across US, Europe, Latin America and Asia, in tandem with ad-tech partners including Wurl and SoFast.

In addition to NexC, Planetcast’s team will also discuss the company’s other solutions at NAB Show 2024, including:

  • Managed Post Production Services – a software and cloud-curated ecosystem of post-production services with a high degree of process automation, plus AI-enabled capabilities to provide best of class services at impressive turnaround times and competitive rates.
  • Playout Disaster Recovery – cloud-based DR solution that provides incredibly cost-effective protection against broadcast service disruption.

Planetcast will also be able to share more insight into the recent news that it has been chosen to continue as the media services partner by Indian Premier League (IPL) rightsholders Star Sports for domestic TV broadcast, Viacom18 for over-the-top (OTT) streaming on JioCinema, and Times Internet for international OTT streaming via Cricbuzz.
