Disney has revealed that Jon Favreau has been appointed to write and executively produce a new live-action Star Wars TV series.
The director of The Iron Man and Jungle Book – who has also portrated the character ‘Happy Hogan’ in a number of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, as well as once having a key role in US sitcom Friends – has been tapped by Lucasfilm to helm the project, which will air on Disney’s (yet-to-launch) SVoD platform.
Favreau already has a storied relationship with the Star Wars franchise having voiced a character in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, and also has a role in the Han Solo movie launching in cinemas this summer.
Favreau commented: “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
