A Cairo satellite Earth station, used to send signals up the satellites in the region, was hit by a rocket attack on October 7th. The blast, in the exclusive Ma’adi district of Cairo, hit a telecoms facility.
The rocket attack damaged some of the satellite uplink dishes at the site which is within a mile or so of the American and British embassy’s in the Egyptian city.
The damage was said locally to be caused by a rocket-propelled grenade, and damaged a State-owned satellite facility.
“Unidentified people opened fire on a satellite receiver station in the neighbourhood of Ma’adi in Cairo,” the Ministry of Interior said in a statement. Security sources said assailants fired two rocket-propelled grenades at the site.
