TiVo jumps on patent ruling
October 7, 2010
Shares of TiVo Inc. raced ahead after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office backed the validity of its patent on technology that allows viewers to rewind, pause or fast-forward live TV. TiVo said the patent office reaffirmed the validity of the “time warp” patent after EchoStar Corp. asked for a reexamination. TiVo said the decision is “final and not appealable by EchoStar.”
“Today’s decision further validates our (intellectual property) and brings us closer to ending EchoStar’s ongoing infringement,” TiVo said in a statement.
TiVo has been in lengthy legal battles over the technology with EchoStar.
