Civolution, the leading provider of technology and solutions for identifying, managing, and monetising media content, announces that it has won the Content Protection award at this year’s TV Innovation Awards.
The award, for the company’s NexGuard – PayTV & Online watermarking-based application, was presented at the awards reception on December 7th as part of the Television 3.0 Conference & Expo in Los Angeles.
Judged by an independent panel of industry experts, and administered by IMS Research, the TV Innovation Awards recognise the most forward thinking companies creating products and services that are driving a new TV paradigm. The Content Protection award recognises innovative solutions that help to protect content both during initial delivery and when stored locally.

Civolution submitted its NexGuard – PayTV & Online solution for the award. This highly innovative and unique application digitally watermarks video content that is delivered to PayTV subscribers or hospitality TV screens to enhance content security. Even after severe quality degradation – such as scaling, cropping, compression and even camcorder copying – pirated content can still be traced back to the source of the leakage, that is, a specific PayTV / VOD transaction. The solution provides another layer of protection beyond Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Conditional Access (CA), as it is designed to protect against content theft rather than signal theft. With this solution, satellite, cable and IPTV operators, video web services and e-tailers on the one hand and content owners on the other can now collaborate to offer movies in earlier release windows. It addresses a growing market of consumers looking to enjoy, in the comfort of their home or in a hotel, premium content early in the release cycle.
Civolution’s Mike Petrocelli also took part in a panel ‘Content Protection: The Key to Monetizing TV 3.0’ at the TV 3.0 Summit & Expo presented by IMS. Moderated by Stephen Froehlich, Analyst at IMS Research, the panel discussed the latest solutions that the studios, networks, cable & satellite operators are setting up or trialling to protect and monetize their content across multiple devices.
