Ergen steps down from Dish Network

Charlie Ergen has stepped aside from his position as president/CEO of Dish Network. He will stay on as the broadcaster’s chairman. In a stock exchange announcement early on May 16th, the company said Joseph P Clayton will assume the president/CEO job effective June 20th.

Clayton was previously chairman of Sirius Satellite Radio from 2004 to 2008 and the company’s CEO from 2001 to 2004. Previous to his stint at Sirius, he was CEO of Global Crossing. Clayton is also a director of EchoStar Corp.

“Joe is a 38-year veteran of the consumer electronics, telecommunications and satellite communications industries and I am pleased to have him lead DISH Network as president and CEO,” said Ergen, in a statement. “Joe brings an enormous amount of executive-level experience in the satellite and consumer electronics industries, including positions at RCA, General Electric and Thomson, and we look forward to his leadership as we continue to deliver video entertainment into the future.”

Ergen, besides staying as Dish Network’s chairman also heads (as chairman) EchoStar Corp.
