DirecTV + Dish: Merger doubts?

June 10, 2011

By Chris Forrester

Michael White, CEO at DirecTV expressed doubts June 9 as to whether US regulators would permit a merger between DirecTV and arch-rival Dish Network. He was speaking in a live interview on Bloomberg TV News. He spoke about the broadcaster’s “clear” strategy for the future, and that they were looking at any possibilities that enhanced shareholder value. Questioned on whether deals such as AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile being approved meant that the regulatory environment was changing, he said that view was speculative.

White said DirecTV had a “fantastic” business in growing its DTH business in Latin America.
