Discovery MAX takes over from Veo on Spanish DTT

Discovery Networks International is launching FTA channel Discovery MAX on January 12th that will be available throughout Spain on the DTT platform on the channel 69 currently occupied by Veo TV.

The launch of this new channel on Spain’s DTT is the result of a recent agreement between Discovery Networks and Unidad Editorial in the light of the financial difficulties that subsidiary Veo TV was facing, so it was unable to maintain the broadcasts.

Discovery MAX will be a non fiction entertainment channel with content from 13 channels that Discovery distributes in the USA and 24 channels in all over the world. Targeted at a massive audience, the channel will offer a variety of programmes with different content including wildlife, motor (like American Chopper) cooking, docu-realities and extreme survival.

Other Spanish DTT channels are also facing financial difficulties and are also negotiating to rent the channel to third parties. This is the case of La 10, managed by media group Vocento, that is currently holding negotiations with several possible candidates to lease its digital channel, among them Fox, Disney, Viacom and even the Real Madrid football team, with its channel Real Madrid TV.
