“Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” Visiware playalong app receives Best Multiscreen Experience Award
October 30, 2012
At MIPCOM 2012 in Cannes, the jury of the AFDESI (interactive TV professional association) International Interactive TV Awards has selected the 2nd screen “Who Wants to be a Millionaire* – the People Play” as the “Best Multiscreen Application”. The application allows “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” viewers at home to play for the first time on their companion screen, answer questions and score points as if they were contestants in the studio, and to publish their score on Facebook, see the leaderboard… PlayAlong makes the show even more engaging for viewers, who stay on the “sticky” service throughout the show.
The application was developed for ITV by social-TV leading company Visiware using its proprietary PlayAlong platform and technology in cooperation with Victory Television, which produces the show for ITV, and Sony Pictures Television, owner of the global format. Visiware Chairman Laurant Weill adds: “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” has been an international hit for many years and nowadays 70 per cent of TV viewers are watching TV with a smartphone, tablet or PC. Finally being able to play Millionaire from home as if on stage, competing also with friends, is a very exciting addition to the show. The new “the people play” experience based on our PlayAlong platform adds a new innovative and entertaining dimension. This prize rewards a real team work and I really want to thank Victory Television and ITV.
