Sky kicks off new football season with 7 live games

June 20, 2013

Having endured an entire summer without football, fans will be rewarded with seven live Football League matches over just ten days as Sky Sports launches its biggest ever season.

Celebrating its 125th year, the Football League has arranged special anniversary fixtures and Sky will show all five matches that feature all eight of the founding clubs still in the league.

Starting on August 2nd, live matches will be shown on five consecutive dates, starting at Bramall Lane as Sheffield United host Notts County in the Football League’s opening fixture as the world’s oldest football club travel to the oldest professional football ground.

The first Saturday of the new campaign will see the Sky cameras at Turf Moor, one of only three grounds used in the inaugural 1888-89 league season that is still in use today, as Burnley do battle against North-West rivals Bolton.

Barry Francis, managing director of Sky Sports said: ‘The new season kicks off here on Sky Sports with a feast of live football for our viewers.  Seven live matches in ten days is the perfect start for our biggest ever season of football. We’re honoured to be part of the celebrations for The Football League’s 125th anniversary. ‘

The new Premier League season will kick off on August 17th.
