China: Future TV to share revenue with online providers

November 5, 2013

Future Television, the Internet TV subsidiary of China Central Television’s national online TV station CNTV, has implemented a revenue sharing model for partner Internet TV platforms providing content to Future TV viewers. At the same time, Future TV has also released paid content products, providing customers with a number of online payment options to complete on-demand programme purchases directly through user TVs.

Mainland Chinese Internet TV platform content is still primarily offered free of charge and without commercial advertising for Future TV customers. Future Television is currently in the process deploying advertising systems.

The second phase of Future Television’s integrated broadcast platform has added content provider management, online payment options, service support, and fee calculators. The new platform also increases the number of possible concurrent users of the system 100-fold.
