Movistar TV goes free to boost subs

movistarSpanish telco Telefonica is launching an aggressive marketing campaign to boost pay-TV subscriptions and capture new customers for its integrated service Movistar Fusion (TV, fixed and mobile Internet, fixed and mobile telephony). From now and until December 31st, the company is offering its IPTV service Movistar TV plus some pay-TV football matches for free for six months to new subscribers to Movistar Fusion. The promotion will cost €180 per subscriber.

Movistar Fusion currently has 2.56 million subscribers with 248,000 new additions in the third quarter of the year. In addition, the company is intensifying the take-up of its FTTH network with 494,000 clients as of September 30th, double the same month in the previous year, with 3 million installed homes and with plans to pass 8 million homes by 2015.

Telefonica’s IPTV service Movistar TV has 606,000 subscribers, with a loss of 23,200 clients in the third quarter of the year and 150,000 over the last 12 months.
