Airbus Defense & Space is getting deeper into the global supply of satellite transmission capacity. It already supplies capacity for governmental and military services, but its new AuroraGlobal system is immediately contracting a “multi-year” deal with Intelsat for capacity aboard current and new Intelsat satellites.
The intention, says Airbus, is to boost connectivity to aircraft and maritime clients around the world. “AuroraGlobal wants to be a global supplier of capacity in all frequency bands,” said the company, and would be leasing capacity from Intelsat, including contracting bandwidth on the new Intelsat Epic satellites, the first of which is expected to come into service early in 2016.
