1 Mainstream named Cool Vendor by Gartner

May 29, 2014

OTT streaming TV platform 1 Mainstream has announced it was named a Cool Vendor in Gartner’s ‘Cool Vendors in Media, 2014,’ authored by Allen Weiner, Mike McGuire and Andrew Frank.

According to Gartner, regarding the companies they have selected this year, “all deal with issues of disruption in the areas of creation, distribution and monetisation. Perhaps the most prevailing area is lowering of boundaries for market entry into various media segments.” Additionally, “the ability to more easily digitise content using third-party providers that handle the heavy lifting of transcoding and formatting is a major accelerant.”

As consumers increasingly turn to Internet Set Top Boxes to access live and on-demand programming, media companies are increasingly challenged by how to distribute their content and through which devices. 1 Mainstream is an automated app platform that makes it easy and cost-efficient for cable and satellite companies to stream live and on-demand HD video across the most popular TV, tablet and game consoles in weeks rather than months. Media companies like the Atlantic Coast Conference and Britain’s leading Pay TV operator Sky have launched apps in only a few weeks on Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon’s Fire TV using 1 Mainstream.

“1 Mainstream’s platform demonstrates that innovation is alive and well in the media industry. We are happy to be recognized as a Cool Vendor by Gartner,” said 1 Mainstream CEO Rajeev Raman. “We are squarely focused on enabling the best content to reach, inform, and entertain people all over the world.”
