Mexico v Netherlands sets US broadcast record

July 2, 2014

RVP-footballSunday’s World Cup match between Mexico and the Netherlands is the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast in US television history, with 10.4 million viewers on Univision.

Nielsen reports the match beat the previous record of 9.4 million for the game between Mexico and Argentina in the 2010 World Cup.

The Mexico v Netherlands game, which the Dutch won 2-1, was also seen by 6.6 million people on ESPN — meaning a total of 17 million watched. ESPN said it was the most-watched football match for an English-language station in the US that did not involve the US team.
