DTG welcomes Freeview Play

September 10, 2015

The DTG looks forward to the launch of Freeview Play as the UK’s universal DTT platform expands into smart TV.

Freeview and Digital UK announced last week that Freeview Play will launch in October, combining catch-up from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, on-demand services and live television.

Richard Lindsay-Davies, DTG CEO, said: “Over 20 years after the DTG first specified digital terrestrial television for the UK it is great to be part of yet another evolution. We look forward to helping the platform develop a conformance regime that will ensure the same reputation for reliability which has made Freeview HD the envy of free-to-air TV platforms around the world.”

”Unlike the limited appeal of Apple TV in the UK market, there’s every reason to think that – just like Freeview HD – this will become universally deployed in integrated TVs. The ongoing cooperation between Freeview, the DTG and Digital UK builds on the success and experience of Freeview HD, developing the technical framework and managing conformance of products entering the retail market, which has seen it become the UK’s most-watched high definition TV platform.”

DTG Testing is the only facility in the world that can test full conformance for Freeview HD before manufacturers apply to use the Freeview trademark, and DTG membership provides prospective manufacturers of Freeview-badged products access to the latest D-Book technical specifications.
