Gimme Fibre Day to celebrate fibre on Nov 4
November 4, 2016
Today is Gimme Fibre Day! The event will be marked by a series of planned activities and regional initiatives with the support of the six global FTTH Councils in Africa, Americas, APAC, Europe, Latam and MENA.
Commemorating the birthday of Sir Charles Kuen Kao, the man who changed the way the world communicates by transmitting light through optical fibres, people all around the world celebrates Gimme Fibre Day every year on 4 November. This event honours the only future–proof broadband access solution on the market and showcases how fibre has positively impacted communities across the world.
All activities organised around the world on November 4th are listed on the Gimme Fibre Day website www.gimmefibre.eu. The FTTH Council Europe also vividly invites participants to join its “I want Fibre” Facebook community and take part in the Selfie Contest organised on this occasion.
“This year again, we are very glad to witness the outstanding involvement of people and the many spontaneous actions throughout the world to celebrate fibre! “says Ronan Kelly, President of the FTTH Council Europe. “We need to work together to spread the word about fibre so that European households benefit from very high capacity connectivity by 2025, including those living in rural areas. Only then will we be able to build a Gigabit Society in Europe.”
The next fibre-related event organized by the FTTH Council Europe is the 14th edition of the FTTH Conference, to be held on 14-16 February 2016, in Marseille, France, under the patronage of the City of Marseille.
