StarTimes vows to boost digital TV over Africa

China’s StarTimes Group, at a ceremony in Hulumi, near Abuja, Nigeria on August 11th, said it was committed to boosting the growth of digital television in sub-Saharan Africa.

The vice chairman of StarTimes, Guo Ziqi, noted that the task is to rapidly link local communities and create more wealth and job opportunities. StarTimes says it now has more than 10 million subscribers in the region.

Also at the same event, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Alhaji Yakubu Ibn Mohammed said his organisation’s partnership with StarTimes has gone a long way in empowering the people with the knowledge needed to take informed decisions.

The Vice Minister of Information of China, Guo Weimin, speaking at the event, said the donation and launch of the digital project was part of the promise the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, made that digital television services carried out by StarTimes are provided to villages throughout the region.
