Nearly a quarter (23.4 per cent) of French thematic pay-TV channels are also available through OTT distribution through dedicated apps. According to a study from research company NPA Conseil, this figure rises to 50.2 per cent when including indirect distribution through aggregation platforms such as MyCanal and Molotov.
Two types of channels are particularly well distributed in OTT; sport channels, which have a strong 88.2 per cent OTT presence, as well as movies and series dedicated networks at 77.8 per cent.
Mainstream pay-TV channels have not yet fully turned to digital; just 11.1 per cent of them have developed OTT distribution.
Content aggregators MyCanal and Molotov are the leading OTT distributors with respectively 104 and 60 channels carried live or on-demand, followed by Playstation consoles (50 available), Chromecast (42) and Samsung (33) and LG smart TVs (30).
