Tata Communications, Panasonic, Edgeware & DVSport join SRT Alliance

April 14, 2020

The SRT Alliance, established by Haivision to support the SRT Open Source project, announces that Tata Communications, Panasonic, Edgeware, and DVSport have joined the SRT Alliance to show their support of the cross industry adoption of the SRT Open Source protocol. Over 50 industry-leading organisations have turned to SRT and joined the SRT Alliance within the last four months, bringing the total number of members to more than 350 companies.

SRT (Secure Reliable Transport), originally developed and open sourced by Haivision, is an open source video streaming protocol which enables remote and cloud-based high-performance video workflows. SRT is helping solution providers to solve today’s challenges including newsgathering, remote production and the broadcaster’s at-home workforce.

“SRT has emerged as a great protocol for getting live video from sporting event locations to our core network,” said Jeremy Dujardin, CTO of Global Media and entertainment Services at Tata Communications. “We support thousands of events per year globally and have proven our SRT workflows across a number of vendor products for video contribution. These feeds are used for both direct to air and remote production.”

“DVSport relies on SRT every day to fuel our live replay systems for NCAA sports. SRT has enabled us to reduce our costs and expand our services by taking advantage of readily accessible low-cost business networks for flawless live video transport,” said Brian Lowe, CEO of DVSport.

“As internet and the cloud are becoming increasingly important, not only for distribution of TV but also for the very creation of the content including channel origination and new interactive entertainment formats, there is a growing demand for reliable and effective means to get the content from the cameras and production sites up to the cloud in a robust and low delay fashion. SRT offers a good foundation as a protocol to build on, and the growing adoption in the industry caters for an eco-system where broadcasters and streaming service providers can select interoperable best of breed products,” said Johan Bolin, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Edgeware.

SRT optimises streaming performance across unpredictable networks with low latency secure streams. SRT, royalty free and available on GitHub, is the fastest growing open source video streaming movement. In addition to its more than 350 alliance members, SRT is also supported by VideoLAN’s VLC, Wireshark, FFmpeg and the GStreamer open source projects. The SRT Alliance members list can be found at srtalliance.org/members.
