BBC exits Wogan House and MediaCityUK

November 2, 2022

The BBC has revealed plans to reduce the size of its property portfolio as part of ongoing reforms. The changes are part of ongoing work to reduce costs and invest more in content.

The BBC will exit Wogan House in London, home to some of Radio 2 and 6 Music’s programme teams and staff from other BBC departments, and Bridge House in MediaCityUK, Salford where BBC Children’s and Education and some BBC Sport and operations staff are based. These moves are expected to be completed in the spring of 2024.

In London, programmes currently recorded and broadcast in Wogan House will move into existing BBC buildings, including primarily to nearby Broadcasting House, whilst in Salford, staff will move to alternative MediaCityUK sites – Quay House and Dock House.

A reduction in the size of the estate will help deliver the BBC’s net zero commitments as a smaller property footprint will lead to a reduction in overall greenhouse gas emissions. It also complements the adoption of hybrid working which has resulted in changes to how the broadcaster uses its buildings.
