Echelon Studios acquires In Support of Liberty documentary
March 29, 2023
Echelon Studios has acquired global rights to the multi-award-winning documentary “In Support of Liberty: Philadelphia and the Greek War of Independence”, from writer and director Eleftherios Kostans.
The short film tells the story of the little-known history of Philadelphia’s support and ties to the Greek War of Independence and highlights how Phil-Hellenes in America embraced and echoed Greek values during that period. Narrated by Greek-American Professor of History, Alexander Kitroeff, the film introduces the viewer to early 19th century Philadelphia through a collection of thought-provoking montages and interviews.
Written, directed, and produced by Kostans, in association with the Greek-American Heritage Society of Philadelphia (GAHSP), the breakthrough documentary has already won Best Documentary Short at some of the most influential and best-reviewed film festivals worldwide, including the Vegas Movie Awards, Golden Horse International Film Festival, the Rohip International Film Festival and the Athvikvaruni International Film Festival. The film also received the Special Jury Award at this year’s Navy International Film Festival and will be entered for selection into the 2023 International Emmy Awards Competition.
Speaking on the acquisition, Sandro Gohoho, President of Licensing and Logistics for Echelon Studios, said: “We are thrilled to represent the latest visionary work of Eleftherios Kostans. ‘In Support of Liberty’ is a unique and introspective retelling of Greek-American heritage, and the significant and distinct associations that are woven throughout the film bring the city’s historic past and it’s connection to the Greek War of Independence to light in a deep and meaningful way.”
